Native Healing Ceremonies: Healing with the Community

Healing ceremonies are practiced throughout the world in many cultures. It’s normally a gathering between the practitioner, patient, family members, and members of the community. Providing energy as a collective is very powerful healing tool for the patient because it shows support. In our society our support system is waiting in the waiting area and the only support we have is ourselves and our spirit guides. It would be much more comforting and reassuring on the mental, if our love ones were present in the operating room alongside the doctor-but that’s not going to happen for obvious reasons. We’re not all equipped to handle blood and incisions!
However, imagine if we did give each other ceremonial support when we were sick by gathering together and asking the Divine Ones to heal us while the shaman/spiritualist works their magic. I can imagine my soul immediately lifting and my body feeling some sense of relief. Now, there are also herbs and other natural resources used in this healing ritual, but the magical force of positive energy surrounding you is empowering in itself.
These healing rituals can last several hours with people chanting, praying, and meditating over the sick. This is also an example of one setting intentions to receive a desired outcome. Everyone comes together to speak out into the universe for the healing of this individual. Members are dancing and playing drums to wake up and attract the spirits to assist in the ceremony. These practices have been proven by psychologists to be very effective in restoring the patient’s health as well as their spirit.
We are children of the Creator and we were given the power to heal not only ourselves, but each other. You don’t have to be a Shaman or a High Priest/Priestess to heal others or to send your blessings. Learn more about healing your charkas and the herbs and power foods that can help heal the body.
