Sitting at my desk at work, I asked myself what are you doing here and how did you get here? I realized when we are trying to get ourselves together, we settle for anything. Deep down inside we know what kind of work would excite us and bring us joy, but we always jump on the first thing that comes our way. Most of us were taught to settle. We were taught to take what we can get and that way of thinking leaves us unfulfilled and applying our energy to jobs that don’t feed our souls and barely feeds us.
Now, I know there are situations that are out of our control and sometimes we have to take what we can get to support ourselves and our families, but we must teach our children not to settle. We must teach our children, that their focus in life should be to own their own businesses. When we go to school, our main mission is to graduate to get a good job, but why not apply that knowledge to open up our own establishments that can benefit our communities.
Every day we clock in to our 9-5, we are supporting someone else’s dreams and giving them our time, which could be spent doing something to better ourselves. I want you to truly think about starting your own business. Don’t worry about the cost or how unrealistic it may sound, you are a child of the Most High and you can achieve anything. Let’s teach ourselves and our children positive thinking, so that they may fulfill their dreams and we can stop daydreaming!
